FPSC Accreditation is a formal recognition awarded to organizations that meet the national standards for training and learning within Canada’s food and beverage processing industry. It validates that an organization’s programs, processes, and materials align with FPSC’s Learning and Recognition Framework (LRF) and the requirements outlined in the TPS:2023 scheme.
The FPSC Accreditation Program system is designed based on international best practices, including ISO/IEC 17011:2017 requirements for accreditation bodies. It emphasizes impartiality, competence, confidentiality, and a risk-based approach, integrating a Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology throughout the evaluation process.
Applicants must prepare organizational details, legal identity, program scope, training materials, program descriptions, documented policies and procedures, instructor qualifications, and proof of alignment with the Learning and Recognition Framework (LRF). A completed application form and payment of the registration fee are also required.
Yes. Accredited organizations must maintain conformity to requirements and undergo surveillance assessments, including annual audits and full reassessment cycles every five years. Ongoing compliance ensures continued accreditation status.
While exact timelines may vary depending on organizational readiness and responsiveness, the process generally includes application submission, agreement signing, assessment phases, addressing nonconformities, and final committee decision. Each phase is supported by clear milestones and scheduled steps to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The LRF is a competency-based framework developed by FPSC that defines the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors for various roles in the food and beverage processing sector. It is used as the baseline for assessing training programs during accreditation, ensuring alignment with national occupational standards and industry needs.
Micro-credentials provide targeted skill development opportunities that support continuous improvement for staff and program participants. Accredited organizations can integrate these micro-credentials to address specific skill gaps identified during assessments and further align with FPSC’s LRF.
Any organization providing training or learning programs within the food and beverage processing sector that wishes to validate its quality and alignment with national standards can apply. This includes private training providers, industry associations, and employers with in-house training programs.
